Small to mid-size commercial energy efficiency retrofits to grow

While the small and medium commercial building market presents plenty of opportunities to improve performance, these buildings have not seen the same penetration of energy efficiency technologies as larger facilities.

A Navigant Research report says while the small and medium commercial building market presents plenty of opportunities to improve performance, these buildings have not seen the same penetration of energy efficiency technologies as larger facilities. The Navigant report says that’s because of lower expenditures on energy management, lack of customer education, perceived high risk of retrofit financing and split incentives between the building owner and tenant. Navigant expects the energy efficiency retrofit market to grow steadily for small and medium commercial buildings over the decade ahead, from $24.1 billion in 2016 to $38.6 billion in 2025, globally.
