Control systems used in manufacturing industries have special requirements not found in typical corporate IT environments. A Belden press release said Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) devices gather, analyze and monitor real-time data from power output to pipeline flow and pressure, enabling equipment and processes to run more safely and efficiently. Cyberthreats to manufacturing are so serious that the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has called for legislation to help manufacturers protect themselves against cybercrime because successful cyberattacks threaten operational uptime and productivity.
