Click here to access Electrical Marketing’s latest electrical product sales potential estimates. EM’s editors develop these estimates with product mix data from survey of Top 150/Top 200 electrical distributors and local, state and national sales estimates that use Electrical Wholesaling’s sales-per-employee multipliers. These multipliers, updated annually in Electrical Wholesaling’s Market Planning Guide are $78,775 for each electrical contractor employee and $2,650 per industrial employee. Together, these core customer groups account for an estimated 75% of all electrical products sold through distributors of electrical supplies.
The employment data used to develop these sales potential estimates comes from the 2022 annual employee counts published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLS) for the constrution and manufacturing industries. Because BLS doesn't publishe electrical contractor employment data for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), electrical marketing estimates electrical contractor employment at 13% of total construction employment, which is its historical average going back 20 years.
