A story on the energy and environment blog SmartPlanet looks at recent research in developing LED lighting and other products such as sensors and solar photovoltaic cells on a paper substrate. The process uses nano-crystals of zinc oxide (yes, the stuff in your bottle of sunscreen) to create a material that is stable and doesn't need protective coverings. This may be another path to creating light-emitting wallpaper and curtains and such.
