ANSI Accredits PEARL to Develop Official Standards for Electrical Reconditioning

Sept. 20, 2013
PEARL said its next steps will be to reach out to the entire electrical industry and find volunteers from every segment of the market to help with the review and improvement of the existing reconditioning standards.

In its ongoing bid to establish reliable standards to guide the electrical products aftermarket, the Professional Electrical Apparatus Recyclers League (PEARL), Aurora, Colo., announced that it has been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an Accredited Standards Developer.

ANSI’s decision comes nearly two years after PEARL created its first ANSI committee and began the application process to gain accreditation with the goal of promoting a single set of consensus technical standards for reconditioning electrical equipment used in industrial and commercial installations and accepted by a pool of industry professionals and stakeholders, PEARL said in a release.

“ANSI’s decision to accept PEARL’s application for Accredited Standards Developer status has been a goal of PEARL since the organization was founded in 1997 and began creating hundreds of technical reconditioning standards for the most common categories of electrical equipment used in industrial and commercial applications,” says Stephen Reames, PEARL president and president of Oregon Breakers Inc., Portland, Ore. “This achievement is the culmination of many thousands of man hours from our corporate members and volunteers. I cannot say enough about the men and women who have made all this possible. While considerable work remains to gather industry-wide input, validation, and acceptance of the electrical reconditioning standards, it makes sense to take a moment today and feel proud of the progress PEARL volunteers have achieved to help the electrical industry reach a new level of safety and sustainability.”

PEARL said its next steps will be to reach out to the entire electrical industry and find volunteers from every segment of the market to help with the review and improvement of the existing reconditioning standards.

PEARL Executive Director Mark Stone said he encourages anyone in the electrical industry with relevant expertise and interest in volunteering their time to help create an ANSI standard focused on electrical reconditioning to contact PEARL’s offices by email at [email protected] or phone at 877-AT-PEARL (877-287-3275).
