Philips Lighting Now Officially Signify

May 16, 2018
The name change was part of the agreement that launched it as a company independent from Royal Philips NV.

Philips Lighting announced that it has officially changed its name to Signify, a move planned for more than two years, since the agreement to split the lighting business from Royal Philips NV as the parent company shifted to focus on healthcare technology. The change of name was part of the agreement that saw Philips Lighting launched as a stand-alone company in an initial public stock offering in May 2016.

In announcing the company board’s approval of the change, the release said: “Signify is a name we chose carefully. It reaffirms the powerful purpose of everything we do – to unlock the extraordinary potential of light for brighter lives and a better world. Its meaning fits with our rich heritage, extending back more than 125 years, as well as with the requirements of a new contemporary and international company with a great purpose.”

Signify will continue to use the Philips brand on lighting products. The graphic treatment of the new Signify logo has already been extended into product line brands, such as its new Interact connected lighting offering shown at Lightfair last week. The company’s website is now www.signify.com.
