Siemens to Research Grid Modernization with Three National Labs

Feb. 1, 2019
The agreement brings together Siemens’ R&D unit in Princeton, NJ, with DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Siemens Corp. is teaming up with three U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories to conduct integrated experiments within their respective research and development facilities to test and validate novel software and hardware technologies needed to strengthen and modernize the nation’s electric grid.

The agreement brings together Siemens’ central research and development unit in Princeton, NJ, and DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO; Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN; and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA.

Research scientists will share information and resources and potentially collaborate on technologies to help integrate power electronic devices with the electric grid, including smart inverters for solar panels, batteries, and electrical vehicles.
