Rep News: Winners of GEM, Preston Awards Named at NEMRA

Adams of Shaffer-Nelson and Starkman of ElectroTech win GEM Awards, Tammy Livers named Thomas F. Preston Manufacturer of the Year

Kevin Adams of Shaffer-Nelson, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Jeff Starkman, ElectroTech, Minneapolis won Electrical Wholesaling’s GEM Awards for Independent Manufacturers’ Reps. EW Chief Editor Jim Lucy presented the awards to Adams and Starkman at last week’s NEMRA annual conference in Atlanta.

Shaffer-Nelson’s Adams won the GEM Award for his years of service to the Pacific Northwest’s electrical industry and innovative management style, and Starkman won the GEM Rising Star Award, which Electrical Wholesaling presents each year to a rep whose early careers and industry contributions show promise of leadership.  The awards were established in honor of George Ganzenmuller, EW’s chief editor of for more than 30 years. He championed the role of the rep in the magazine’s editorial pages for over three decades.

In other news at NEMRA, Eaton’s Tammy Livers received the Thomas F. Preston Manufacturer of the Year award. Livers is V.P. of sales for Eaton’s Residential and Wiring Device Division, Peachtree City, Ga. Livers joined the electrical industry in 1997 and in addition to her present post at Eaton and executive posts at Cooper Industries also worked for Thomas & Betts and Hubbell.

NEMRA presents the Thomas F. Preston award annually to an individual within a manufacturing firm who has shown outstanding business leadership, business integrity, and support of the independent electrical manufacturer’s representative and NEMRA. The award is named in honor of Tom Preston, NEMRA’s first executive director, and  associate publisher of Electrical Wholesaling and Electrical Marketing from 1987-1991.
