Surge in Branch Expansion Continues with Openings by NESCO, Graybar and HD Supply

May 12, 2013

It’s been quiet on the acquisition front, but over the past few months quite a few electrical distributors have set up new branch locations. This week Needham Electric Supply (NESCO), Canton, Mass., announced that it has opened a new branch location in West Springfield, Massachusetts; Border States Electric announced plans to open a 16,400-sq.-ft. location in Duluth, Minn., on May 20; and HD Supply Power Solutions, Atlanta, announced the openings of new branches in Midland, Texas; Durham, N.C.; and Salt Lake City that will offer full counter operations to service electrical contractors.

Additionally, last week Graybar Electric Co. St. Louis, said it would be opening a facility in Binghamton, N.Y., to service the Marcellus Shale region. It’s the fifth branch Graybar has opened this year and the ninth it has opened in the last two years. Located at 417 Commerce Road in Vestal, N.Y., the branch will serve the Binghamton metro area as well as Broome, Chemung, Chenago, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins counties in New York and Susquehanna and Wayne counties in Pennsylvania. Branch Supervisor Lex Brown, a 27-year veteran of the electrical industry, will lead the branch’s five employees. The Binghamton branch is part of Graybar’s Pittsburgh District and will provide a more comprehensive service platform to customers in Southern New York and Northern Pennsylvania.

The new NESCO location is at 91 Union St. in West Springfield is a full-service branch with a 2,000-sq.-ft. counter area and 4,300-sq.-ft. warehouse. Sean Callahan, who joined Needham Electric in October 2012 as branch manager for the Company’s Greenfield branch, has been named branch manager. Callahan, with 13 years in the industry, will be responsible for managing the day-to-day sales and operations as well as further developing the Springfield market.

NESCO has been expanding rapidly in New England. West Springfield is the company’s 13th location in Massachusetts and 28th branch in New England. Since December Needham Electric Supply has acquired Laconia Electric Supply, GTM Electric Supply, Bristol County Electric and has opened new locations in Hudson, N.H., and West Springfield, Mass.
