Turtle & Hughes, Inc., Linden, N.J., has acquired Mid-Island Electrical Supply, Commack, N.Y., a full-service distributor serving the automation, construction, industrial, OEM, commercial, institutional and municipal markets in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

In a press release publicly announcing the acquisition, Jayne Millard, the Turtle & Hughes CEO, said, “As Turtle & Hughes continues to strengthen its role in the industrial marketplace, we are excited to join forces with another highly regarded automation distributor. Mid-Island has built an exceptional legacy with 62 years of brand equity in the marketplace and a long history of providing outstanding value to customers. We share a strong track record, integrity, and the commitment to helping customers leverage technology for competitive advantage.”

Mid-Island will continue to operate as a branch of Turtle & Hughes, under the Mid-Island name.  Billy Wresch, currently president of Mid-Island Electrical Supply, will manage the branch as vice president, Mid-Island Electrical Supply. “This is one of those deals that makes a lot of sense, said Wresch in the release. “When you bring together two similar cultures, exceptional people, and fiercely competitive managers, only good things can happen. Our best years are ahead of us.”

Both companies are members of the Affiliated Distributors buying/marketing group and are Rockwell Automation distributors. They are also both ranked on Electrical Wholesaling’s listing of the Top 200 distributors. Turtle & Hughes was ranked #26 on the 2012 listing and currently has 630 employees, 15 locations and $518 million in 2012, according to its response for the upcoming 2013 EWTop 200. Mid-Island Electrical Supply was ranked #139 on the 2012 listing, with $48.3 million in 2011 sales, 70 employees and three locations.

This is Turtle & Hughes’ third acquisition in the past year. The company also acquired Mag-Trol Electric, Long Beach, Calif., and Rhino Electric, Huntington Beach, Calif. The Mag-Trol acquisition builds on the company’s focus on providing electrical equipment for industrial control applications at port facilities throughout the United States.
