The acquisition team at Sonepar USA, Philadelphia, the U.S. unit of Sonepar Group, Paris, has been busy of late, and two deals came to fruition in announcements over the past two weeks.

Moving to further strengthen its hand in the Rocky Mountains, following the acquisition of Codale Electric, Salt Lake City, in 2012, Sonepar last week announced that Denver-based Quality Electrical Distribution (QED), one of the nation’s largest wholesalers of electrical supplies, has signed an agreement to join Sonepar USA.

This week, Sonepar said Electrical Distributors (ED), Irving, Texas, also has signed an agreement to join Sonepar USA.

QED, founded in 1987 by Dean Stauffer, is a regional electrical distributor serving residential and commercial contractors, industrial facilities and OEM businesses from 13 locations in North Dakota, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. In terms of 2014 revenues from electrical distribution, QED ranked #45 on Electrical Wholesaling’s Top 200.

QED is known for its merchandising and counter facilities and innovations in value-added services to its customers. The addition of QED expands Sonepar USA’s geographic footprint and strengthens its position in the region, the company said in a release. Dave Dahl was named president of QED.

Electrical Distributors, founded in 2008, has locations in Irving and Houston, Texas. ED is an independently-owned and operated electrical supply company that serves the electrical contractor, industrial, institutional and end-user markets with variety of value-added services such as kitting, inventory replenishment, storage and after hours support.

ED will continue to operate as a standalone brand, reporting to Sonepar USA. Halsey Cook, president of Sonepar USA, said in a release. “We are excited to have ED join the Sonepar USA family. I want to welcome Tim Cappelli, chairman/CFO and Martin Martinez, president, as well as all ED associates, to the Sonepar USA team.”
