Sonepar’s Codale Electric Supply Acquires Grove Madsen in Las Vegas and Reno

May 6, 2016
Grove Madsen will now operate under the name “Grove Madsen Industries, a Division of Codale.”

Codale Electric Supply, a subsidiary of Sonepar USA based in Salt Lake City, announced the acquisition of Grove Madsen Industries, an independent electrical and automation distributor with locations in Reno and Las Vegas. Grove Madsen will now operate under the name “Grove Madsen Industries, a Division of Codale.”

“Grove Madsen’s well-established customer base, along with its strong desire to grow, will greatly enhance our opportunities within the state of Nevada,” said Jon Mitchell, president of Codale, in a press release.

The acquisition adds the Las Vegas market to Codale’s collection of Rockwell Automation area of primary responsibility (APR) authorizations. The company has an affiliate company in Las Vegas, Codale Energy Services & Supply, LLC, which was unable to sell Rockwell products in the Las Vegas market, according to the company’s website. It also adds a location in Reno, where Grove Madsen held the Rockwell authorization, to Codale’s 11-branch network. Codale already has an authorized location in Elko, Nev., in the state’s northeast region.

Grove Madsen Industries ranked #159 on Electrical Wholesaling’s 2015 Top 200 list of the largest distributors in North America, placing its annual sales somewhere between $34 million and $36 million.

Codale Electric Supply  was acquired by Sonepar in 2012, establishing a presence in the Mountain region that it has since expanded with acquisition of Denver-based Quality Electrical Distribution (QED) last year. Other Sonepar acquisitions over the past year include Eck Supply in Virginia and the Carolinas, Trinity Electric Supply in Dallas and Ciro Electrical Supply in Philadelphia.

Sonepar is the largest electrical distributor in the United States, reporting $8.5 billion in North American sales, and the largest in the world, with a total of about $19.2 billion in 2014 sales worldwide.
