Saft Unit of French Power Giant Total Buys Go Electric

June 21, 2019
The acquisition enables Saft, a specialist in battery energy storage solutions, to expand its value chain capabilities in microgrid energy projects.

Saft, Paris, France, a unit of energy giant Total, this week acquired Go Electric Inc., Anderson, IN, a developer of distributed energy resiliency solutions for microgrids. Terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed.

Go Electric, which has locations in Honolulu, HI, and Brooklyn, NY, makes microgrid power controller technology and energy storage systems used in military microgrids and commercial and industrial sites in the US and Canada.

The acquisition enables Saft, a specialist in battery energy storage solutions, to expand its value chain capabilities in microgrid energy projects.

“This acquisition is an important step in Saft’s strategy to accelerate the growth of its energy storage systems business. Saft is now able to expand its scope of expertise from battery design and manufacture to the deployment of integrated turnkey distributed renewable energy storage solutions that connect customer sites to the grid,” said Philippe Sauquet, president of Total’s Gas, Renewables & Power business.

Go Electric, meanwhile, expects to benefit from the opportunity to serve the global power grid market.

“Go Electric can accelerate its growth beyond North America and benefit from Saft’s brand recognition and long-standing experience in providing high quality products in energy storage” said Lisa Laughner, CEO and co-founder of Go Electric Inc.
