General Cable, Highland Heights, Ky., has been notified by IndustryWeek, a leading manufacturing management magazine, that three of its North American manufacturing facilities have been selected as finalists in the publication’s annual Best Plants competition. The company’s facilities in Indianapolis; Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico; and Tetla, Tlaxcala, Mexico each received this honor.
“To have three General Cable plants represented on the IndustryWeek Top 25 list for the second year in a row is truly an outstanding achievement and is unprecedented in the 17 years Industry Week has held the Best Plants competition,” said Larry Fast, senior vice president, North American operations. “The introduction of lean manufacturing to General Cable over six years ago, combined with Six-Sigma quality improvement tools, continues to drive major improvements throughout our company.”
To be considered for this competition, manufacturing facilities throughout North America documented and reported practices and performance in several categories, including manufacturing operations and flexibility, environmental and safety programs, inventory management, productivity, quality and use of technology. It is from this list of 25 finalists that IndustryWeek will select the 10 winners of the 2006 Best Plants competition, which will be announced in the magazine’s October issue.
