Two Sonepar Operating Companies Make Acquisitions in Dallas and Philadelphia

Two of Sonepar USA’s operating companies recently announced acquisitions. Crawford Electric Supply announced that it has purchased Trinity Electric Supply, a Dallas-based six-year old distributor, and Cooper Electric announced that it has purchased Ciro Electrical Supply Co., Philadelphia.

Sonepar said in a press release that the addition of Trinity strengthens Crawford’s footprint in the specialty lighting market, and that all Trinity associates will report to Kelly Johns, the Dallas/Ft. Worth area manager for Crawford.

Sonepar acquired Crawford Electric in 2007, when it was one of the largest independent electrical distributors in the Texas market. This gave Sonepar a significant footprint in the commercial markets of some of Texas’ big cities — Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth and San Antonio. The operation has since expanded, including a new location in New Braunfels. Earlier this year Crawford reorganized its top management, putting Tim Horny in the president’s chair as former president Jeff Metzler stepped down to pursue other interests.

Founded in 1971, the 10-employee Ciro is a family-owned and operated business in Philadelphia that has evolved into a full-line stocking electrical distributor currently in its second generation of ownership. Ciro services a diverse customer base of small and medium customers in the Center City Philadelphia territory with what it says is an active, well-maintained counter.

Sonepar is no stranger to the New Jersey-Philadelphia market, as it acquired Cooper Electric in 2003 to expand in New Jersey and surrounding Mid-Atlantic states. Last year, Sonepar reorganized its operations in the region, combining it with New England under direction of Don Block, president of the New England-Mid Atlantic region.
