Electrical Price Index Flat Again in June

Even building wire, the most cyclical of product categories, doesn’t show any movement.
July 26, 2013
You know Electrical Marketing’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) is flat when even building wire, the most cyclical of product categories, doesn’t show any movement at all month-to-month (MTM). The EPI stayed at 143.3 for June, changing only -0.3% YTY. Power cable (-3%) and air conditioners (-1%) were the only product categories showing a change MTM of at least 1%.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
