NEMA’s June EBCI Index Sees Solid Growth in Both Current & Future Conditions
The Current Conditions component of NEMA’s EBCI Index rose to 63.2 points in June, up from May’s reading of 47.7 points and returning to expansionary territory. Forty-two percent of respondents reported “better” conditions, 16% reported “worse,” and 42% indicated conditions were unchanged. Compared to the prior month, the distribution of responses showed a meaningful improvement, with a larger share reporting better conditions and a smaller share indicating deterioration.
The ElectroIndustry Business Conditions Index (EBCI) is a monthly survey of executives at electrical manufacturers published by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Any score over the 50-point level indicates a greater number of panelists see conditions improving than see them deteriorating.
Respondent comments suggested conditions were generally stable to improving, supported by stronger new orders, though some panelists continued to cite slower decision-making and uneven demand.
The outlook strengthened in June, as the Future Conditions component increased to 76.3 points from May’s 72.7 points. Looking ahead six months, 68% of respondents expected conditions to be “better,” 16% anticipated conditions would be “worse,” and 16% expected conditions to remain unchanged.
Compared to the prior month, the share expecting improvement increased, while fewer respondents expected conditions to remain unchanged. Respondents generally anticipated stronger activity in the months ahead, supported by expectations for improved business momentum, though raw material availability, energy market conditions, and geopolitical uncertainty remained key concerns.
