Guarantee Electrical Co. Buys TEL-Vi Communications To Boost VDV Operations

Feb. 20, 2004
To provide both electrical and datacom services, St. Louis-based Guarantee Electrical Co., one of the nation’s largest electrical contractors, recently acquired TEL-Vi Communications, a Fenton, Mo.-based provider of voice/data/video network installation services.

To provide both electrical and datacom services, St. Louis-based Guarantee Electrical Co., one of the nation’s largest electrical contractors, recently acquired TEL-Vi Communications, a Fenton, Mo.-based provider of voice/data/video network installation services.

TEL-Vi has performed VDV network installations for such companies and institutions as Anheuser-Busch, Saint Louis University, and A.G. Edwards.

Tel-Vi’s structured cabling and specialty fiber-optics services can support systems including telecommunications, data, audio/video, fire protection, security and other specialty applications. Because of its heavy equipment capability, TEL-Vi also regularly provides outside underground plant services.

“Our customers are always looking for ways to streamline the construction process,” said Rick J. Oertli, president and chief executive officer, Guarantee Electrical. “As low voltage systems and their applications have evolved, clients are looking more and more to the electrical contractor to provide many of the interdependent installation services associated with these systems. Now we can provide better coverage for a wide array of electrical infrastructure.”

The acquisition of TEL-Vi marks Guarantee’s second purchase in less than a year. In September 2003, Guarantee acquired Kimsey Electrical Contracting, a division of Fischbach & Moore Electric Inc., forming Kimsey-Guarantee Electrical Contracting, headquartered in Denver. Kimsey-Guarantee has 180 employees and annual revenues of approximately $30 million.

Guarantee Electrical, with 500 employees and 2002 sales of $112 million, ranked as the nation’s 31st top electrical contractor, according to EC&M magazine’s September 2003 listing.

Tel-Vi’s co-owners Richard J. Potts, president, and Robert W. Julius, vice president, will remain with the company.
