George Feldstein, founder and chairman of Crestron Electronics, Rockleigh, N.J., passed away Nov. 4 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. He was 73.

George Feldstein, founder and chairman of Crestron Electronics, Rockleigh, N.J., passed away Nov. 4 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. He was 73. Feldstein was known as a “tireless tinkerer” and a pioneer in audio/video technology with more than 50 patents to his name. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Feldstein earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from New York University, and worked in experimental physics, industrial controls and weapons testing before starting Crestron above a delicatessen in Cresskill, N.J. in the 1970s. The company now has 2,500 employees worldwide and $400 million in sales.
