Former IKEA executives embrace LED lighting
April 14, 2014
A group of former executives from Swedish home furnishings giant IKEA are moving into the LED lighting industry, creating a company to produce a range of lamps designed to be identical to legacy incandescent lamps but run on LED. EcoLights Green Technologies, Ltd., based in Hong Kong with Swedish ownership, said in a release that its products avoid the need for an external heat-sink by filling the lamps with a cooling gas mixture, and that using the gas instead of a heat-sink made the lamp more smoothly dimmable and reduced the size of ballast electronics, making it possible to recreate Edison-style lamps.
Here's a press release describing the move (PDF format): "Former IKEA Executives Revolutionise LED Light Bulb Technology"
