Philips Lighting Expansion Adds 50 Jobs in Tupelo, Miss.
Philips Lighting Co. will add 50 jobs in a $2 million expansion of operations at its luminaire production facility in Tupelo, Miss., according to a report by the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal’s djournal.com.
The company said it’s adding 25 product lines to the Tupelo plant, including LED technology made at the company’s San Jose, Calif., facility. Philips’ Day-Brite and Chloride brands operate in the 550,000 square foot Tupelo plant, which employs 350 before the expansion. Philips acquired the plant in its Dec. 2007 acquisition of Day-Brite parent Genlyte Thomas.
Iain Logan, head of operations for Philips Lighting Americas, said the lineup includes state-of-the-art intelligent fixtures that automatically respond to their environment. The Mississippi Development Authority provided $1 million in federal community development grant assistance in support of the project for building modifications.
