In the United States, it seems to have become habitual to lump together India and China in discussions of overseas competition and outsourcing of production and services, but the two countries have their own challenges with regard to one another. A story in today's Economic Times (a financial newspaper and website serving India) reports that electrical equipment manufacturers in India are appealing to the Indian government for protection from Chinese imports.

According to the report, 90 percent of electrical and electronic goods sold in India are imported from China, including transformers, insulators, AC circuits, motors, electric meters and towers. The Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA) is seeking government intervention for preventive measures such as anti-dumping duties.
