NFPA Introduces First Draft of NFPA 70E 2021

Nov. 15, 2018
The public comment period for the second draft closes May 8, 2019.

The 2021 edition of NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace has just been released in the first draft stage of the development process. This standard directly relates to electrical contractor and electrical worker compliance with electrical safety in the workplace.

The public comment period for the second draft closes May 8, 2019. Here’s where you can view proposed revisions and prepare your own comments: NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace

The public input report (PDF) is worth a read (or, at 970 pages, at least a browse) for an appreciation of the detailed questions raised and the commitment of the commenters, who come from electrical contractors, research facilities, equipment manufacturers, unions, nuclear facilities, standards organizations, safety consultants, and many other interested parties.

NFPA 70E covers requirements for safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards. Originally developed at OSHA's request, NFPA 70E helps companies and employees avoid workplace injuries and fatalities due to shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast, and assists in complying with OSHA 1910 Subpart S and OSHA 1926 Subpart K.
