Ideal Industries sponsors team in SAE supermileage competition
The team from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill., placed third overall among 28 teams from the United States and Canada with a best run of 1,173 miles on a single gallon of gas.
Toolmaker Ideal Industries, Sycamore, Ill., sponsored a college engineering team in this month's Society of Automotive Engineers' Supermileage competition in Marshall, Mich. The team from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill., placed third overall among 28 teams from the United States and Canada with a best run of 1,173 miles on a single gallon of gas.
Sponsored by Ideal and its subsidiary SK Hand Tools, this specially-designed single-person car constructed by engineering students at Northern Illinois University was powered by a one-cylinder, four-cycle engine donated by Briggs & Stratton.
