Sept. 19, 2003
Guarantee Electrical Co., St. Louis, has acquired Kimsey Electrical Contracting, a division of Fischbach & Moore Electric Inc., forming Kimsey-Guarantee Electrical Contracting, headquartered in Denver.

Guarantee Electrical Co., St. Louis, has acquired Kimsey Electrical Contracting, a division of Fischbach & Moore Electric Inc., forming Kimsey-Guarantee Electrical Contracting, headquartered in Denver. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Kimsey Electrical Contracting has 150 employees and annual revenues of approximately $30 million. In 2002, Kimsey was ranked sixth in the survey of Top Specialty Contractors of Colorado, published by Colorado Contractor Magazine.

Guarantee Electrical, which was named Electrical Company of the Year in the Thomas & Betts 2002 Signature Awards earlier this year, has 600 employees and annual revenues exceeding $100 million. James R. Riney, current operations manager for Kimsey Electrical, has been named vice president of the new company.

Kimsey Electrical specializes in commercial and industrial electrical construction, traffic signal and heavy highway work, plant construction and maintenance, and voice/data and fiber optic installations. It has a longtime contract at the Valero Refinery in Benicia, Calif., providing ongoing maintenance and electrical installations.

The company also performs a large number of traffic-related projects for the Colorado Department of Transportation, including recently serving as prime electrical contractor for the $10 million relighting of the Eisenhower Tunnel (south bore) on I-70, which runs under the continental divide; a $3.5 million light rail project; and a $9 million project at the Denver Broncos’ Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. Kimsey Electrical Contracting was established in 1996 with the acquisition of a local electrical WBE firm, Mech-El Contracting Inc., specializing in industrial and government projects. The company merged with Fischbach & Moore Electric in 1998. Fischbach & Moore, with headquarters in New Providence, N.J., is a wholly owned subsidiary of InfraSource, Inc., which is 90 percent owned by PECO Energy.

Founded in 1902 by seven St. Louis entrepreneurs who “guaranteed” to light the 1904 World’s Fair, Guarantee Electrical Co. today is ranked 25 among leading electrical contracting firms by ENR. The company provides electrical contracting services, including electrical construction, electrical engineering design, design-assist, value engineering, procurement, service and preventative maintenance.
