Electrical contractor sales potential hit $86.9 billion in 4Q 2024, according to Electrical Marketing’s sales potential estimates, a rather pedestrian +2% year-over-year (YOY) increase.
While the YOY national growth rate for electrical contractor sales potential remains sluggish, 12 of the Top 50 counties in electrical contractor sales potential as ranked by EM (see chart below), enjoyed a double-digit growth rate. Two counties in the Top 20 — Loudoun County, VA (+30.7%) in Washington DC’s western suburbs and Franklin County, OH, in the Columbus, OH, metro — are currently among the most popular locations for data center construction. Loudoun’s County’s 4Q 2024 estimated electrical contractor sales potential topped $750 million and Franklin County’s estimated potential was more than $550 million.
Some familiar counties are at the top of EM’s electrical contractor sales potential rankings. Phoenix's Maricopa County ($2.2 billion; Los Angeles County ($1.5 billion); the Houston metro’s Harris County ($1.4 billion) and Dallas County in the Dallas metro ($1.3 billion); and Orange County, CA ($1 billion) are in the top five spots.
When ranked by estimated YOY increase in sales dollars, Loudoun County took top honors with a $178.3 million increase, followed by Maricopa County ($158 million) in Arizona; Jefferson County ($131.8 million) in the Beaumont-Port Arthur, TX, MSA; Dallas County ($117.2 million); and Franklin County ($97.7 million). EM's county-level sales estimates use EW's sales-per-employee multiplier of $78,775 sales per electrical contractor employee and 4Q 2024 electrical contractor employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
