Cooper Acquires Hyundai Business

Cooper Industries Ltd., Houston, has acquired South Korea’s Hyundai Explosion-Proof Electric Co. (HEPEC), a manufacturer of explosion-protected electrical equipment. Cooper acquired HEPEC to expand its core operations and its presence in the South Korean market, Kirk Hachigian, Cooper’s chief executive, said in a statement. “This acquisition will provide Cooper with increased access to the South Korean market, with its strong shipbuilding industry and where significant investment to upgrade domestic energy and petrochemical infrastructure is underway,” Hachigian said. HEPEC specializes in explosion-proof glass reinforced plastic lighting, control panels and switchgear.
