Omni Cable Corp., West Chester, Pa., expanded its presence in the southern California market with the purchase of Distributor’s Wire & Fittings (DWF) Inc., a master distributor of specialty wire and cable that sells to other distributors.
Omni Cable purchased DWF’s main office in Buena Park, Calif.; a field office in Phoenix; and the company’s payables, inventories and receivables.
Omni Cable had been serving the West Coast out of its Haywood, Calif., location, in the San Francisco area. According to Jeff Siegfried, president of Omni Cable, the acquisition made sense because the company was looking to expand in southern California.
“This acquisition made sense because of the synergy of two organizations,” said Siegfried. “This acquisition is a logical extension of our long-term strategy to respond to the logistical needs of our customers, the wholesale electrical distributor. The acquisition is a perfect match of culture, experience and drive. We are thrilled at the opportunity to bring the Omni brand of service to our customer base in southern California and Arizona.”
John Rutherford, formerly a DWF partner, will become Omni LA branch manager. He will also manage the Phoenix branch.
“Omni’s nationwide coverage made the Los Angeles area a logical and key area for expansion,” said Rutherford.
Omni Cable’s other stocking locations include West Chester, Pa.; Atlanta; Boston; Denver; Houston; San Francisco; and St. Louis.
Siegfried said the inventory of the two companies are similar and they share the same vendors. He explained that Omni Cable bought the payables of DWF to help protect the company’s vendors. “We purchased the payables because we wanted to protect our vendors who are owed money there. It’s the same vendors. It made sense to protect them.”
