Mayer Electric Supply Co. Inc., Birmingham, Ala., has expanded into its eighth state — Mississippi — with the acquisition of Biloxi Electric Supply in Biloxi, Miss. At the same time, the company has opened a branch in Gulfport, Miss.
With 890 employees and 56 locations, Mayer Electric Supply was ranked the nation’s 15th biggest electrical distributor, according to Electrical Wholesaling’s 2006 listing of the Top 200 Electrical Distributors. Mayer Electric has locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Bill Van Alstyne and E.J. Parker, the owners of Biloxi Electric Supply, will continue as sales manager in Biloxi and branch manager of both locations, respectively.
Biloxi Electric Supply has served the Gulf area since the late 1980s. Soon, the 5,000-sq ft. branch will move to a larger, newer facility almost double its size with increased inventory about two miles away. The company’s name will change to Mayer Electric Supply.
“We are really pleased and always honored when leaders like Bill Van and E.J. choose to join our company. They are successful industry veterans. We are confident that having the support of the Mayer resources and organization behind them will help them serve customers even better than before,” said Jim Summerlin, Mayer’s president.
Mayer Electric Supply serves electrical contractors, industrial and institutional facilities, the marine industry, and commercial businesses.
The company also made acquisitions in 2003, with the purchases of Maddux Electric Supply, Greensboro, N.C., and the Mobile, Ala., branch of Roden Electrical Supply Co. Inc., Knoxville, Tenn.
