In a move to expand its offering to the smart grid projects under development around the world, Honeywell, Morris Township, N.J. (HON), has acquired E-Mon, LLC, Langhorne, Pa., a manufacturer of electric submetering products and systems. The acquisition will enable Honeywell to offer a more complete energy efficiency portfolio to a broader customer base and strengthens its offerings in support of the smart grid, Honeywell said.
Because submeters enable facility owners such as property managers, schools and universities, government facilities, manufacturers and shopping centers to better control and manage energy costs, the addition of E-Mon will allow Honeywell's Environmental and Combustion Controls group to offer a key part of the energy-efficiency puzzle. E-Mon's submeters can measure energy consumption by tenant or department, enabling property owners to analyze consumption and usage patterns, identify failing equipment and system inefficiencies and verify facility energy conservation programs — all of which are critical capabilities in a smart grid environment.
E-Mon will be integrated into the Environmental and Combustion Controls (ECC) unit under Honeywell's Automation and Control Solutions business group. ECC's products, components and systems deliver temperature control, comfort, energy conservation and safety to more than 150 million homes and 10 million buildings worldwide.
“With the acquisition of E-Mon, Honeywell has a more comprehensive technology solution to enable commercial building operators to maximize energy efficiency and make them smart grid ready,” said Joseph Puishys, president of Honeywell ECC. “Submetering is the key enabler to efficiency initiatives in buildings. As the leading provider of electric submeters, E-Mon's highly developed portfolio will strengthen Honeywell's energy efficiency offerings, and its electrical distribution channel will broaden ECC's customer access.”
Supported by more than 1,500 electrical distributors, E-Mon's products are installed worldwide for tenant billing, cost allocation, demand side management, energy conservation, load profiling and green building programs in skyscrapers, shopping centers, airports, factories, office buildings, apartment buildings, college campuses and government facilities.
