Standard Electric, Wilmington, Mass., has strengthened its presence in the Massachusetts market with the acquisition of Wellesley Electrical Supply Inc.
The facility, located at 20 Kearney Road in Needham Heights, will continue to operate as a supply counter and lighting showroom providing a range of electrical, lighting and telecommunications products to the local marketplace. Wellesley’s former owner, Tim McInerney, will continue to run the day-to-day operations.
Wellesley Electric was founded in September 1985 in Wellesley, Mass., and in August of 1995 moved to its present location in Needham.
“The acquisition of Wellesley Electric continues our growth strategy, which is aimed at expanding our geographic coverage to better serve our existing and growing customer base. This acquisition follows our 2004 new branch openings in the north central (Ayer) and southeastern (Rockland) Massachusetts markets,” said Dennis Miller, Standard Electric’s president and CEO.
Standard Electric has also expanded through acquisitions over the years. In 2003, the company purchased Intercity Electric, Framingham, Mass., and Lowell Electric, Lowell, Mass. In 2002, it extended its presence in Connecticut when it purchased two-location B & B Electrical Supply, Putnam, Conn.
Founded in 1952, Standard Electric has 16 locations throughout New England and ranks among the top electrical distributors in the nation. Standard Electric services the construction, commercial, industrial and national retail markets with lighting, power distribution, telecommunications and electrical supply products.
