New Construction Projects Hit Pipeline

March 8, 2019
While the overall value of new construction data is running lukewarm at best, that market is still very much alive.

While the overall value of new construction data that measure construction activity is running lukewarm at best, when you pull together information on the largest construction projects now underway, on the drawing boards or proposed, you realize that market is still very much alive.

While updating our construction project database with activity over the past few months, EM’s editors found more than 180 projects valued at more than $100 million. Everyone has heard about the Amazon headquarters project that will bring 50,000 jobs and 8 million square feet of new office space to Crystal City, VA, just outside Washington, DC. But dozens of other big projects are transforming  many metros, too.

A select group of project types dominate the list of 50 large construction projects in the link below. Many of the biggest construction jobs recently announced were LNG (liquified natural gas) export terminals along the Gulf Coast; downtown redevelopment projects adding millions of square feet of office and thousands of units of multi-family housing; data centers; airports and light-rail projects.

Some of  the biggest urban redevelopment projects now underway include work in Boston’s Seaport district; Hudson Yards in New York; the Wharf development in Washington, DC; Atlanta’s Gulf project; and work in downtown Los Angeles and San Jose, CA. Other projects of note include dozens of data centers Google, Apple and other tech firms are building and billion-dollar office projects recently announced by Google in New York and Apple in Austin, TX.
