Electrical Price Index — August 2014

Sept. 22, 2014
Electrical Marketing’s August Electrical Price Index (EPI) made one of its stronger moves in recent months with a 0.7% increase to 147.5.

Electrical Marketing’s August Electrical Price Index (EPI) made one of its stronger moves in recent months with a 0.7% increase to 147.5. That figure is also up 0.9% from Aug. 2013. The biggest gainer was the Building Wire & Cable category with a 3% increase, followed by Lamps (+1.4%) and Metal Conduit (+1.1%). The Power Wire & Cable  category declined 1.3% for the month.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
