Project Watch: Billion-Dollar Data Centers Break Ground in February and March

April 9, 2026

Despite more reports about increasing local opposition to new data centers, several billion-dollar projects broke ground over the past two months. These projects include  a $10-billion, 4-million-sq-ft campus in Lebanon, OH, according to a report at www.globalconstructionreview.com; and Google’s $3-billion Project Meitner data center in Miami, FL and the $3-billion Polaris Forge 2 AI data center in Harwood, ND, according to Dodge Construction Network. A local news report at www.nbc4i.com in Ohio also said Microsoft broke ground on two billion dollar data centers in Heath and Hebron, OH.
Another truly gigantic data center that’s been all over the news in recent weeks is the $165-billion project by Oracle and Open AI that’s in the early construction stages.
Outside of data centers, two other billion-dollar projects in the news are the $1.53-billion Tampa International Airport Airside D project that broke ground in February (Dodge Construction Network) and the $1.38-billion expansion of Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center that secured funding earlier this month, according to a www.houfirst.com report.
