NEMA’s EBCI Indexes Soar in December, Indicating Broad Industry Optimism

NEMA execs remain bullish on the electrical economy heading into 2026.

The Current Conditions component of NEMA’s EBCI rose to 72.2 points in December, up from 58.3 points in November. Respondents indicated that 44% experienced “better” conditions, none reported “worse,” and 56% saw conditions remain unchanged.


The ElectroIndustry Business Conditions Index (EBCI) is a monthly survey of executives at electrical manufacturers published by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Any score over the 50-point level indicates a greater number of panelists see conditions improving than see them deteriorating.


Comments from panelists were positive, highlighting strong bookings and ongoing momentum. Optimism for future output strengthened, as the Future Conditions component climbed to 88.9 points, compared to 79.2 points in November. A majority of respondents, 78%, expect conditions to be “better” six months from now, with none anticipating “worse,” and 22% seeing conditions remaining unchanged. Comments reflect a positive outlook, with expectations for strong output in the coming months.
