Latest from Economic Data
Using Electrical Wholesaling’s 2016 sales-per-employee multipliers from this year’s Market Planning Guide and the latest available employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for construction and manufacturing segments, we refreshed our sales potential estimates for the electrical contractor, MRO (maintenance & repair operations), OEM (original equipment manufacturers) and factory automation segments.
We discovered that just 10 states with the largest sales potential for both the electrical contractor and industrially-oriented market segments account for just over half of the national sales in these areas. For instance, with $19.9 billion in estimated 2016 sales potential with electrical contractors for next year, California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington (in ranked order) account for about 52% of the total $38.6 billion in sales forecast to contractors.
With $4.6 billion of the estimated $8.8 billion in MRO sales, California, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, North Carolina and New York (also in ranked order), also account for just over 50% of the MRO total.
