Plans for More Multi-Billion-Dollar Data Center Projects Continue to Flood Market
There has been no lack of data center news over the past few weeks, as the size of the projects continue to get truly monstrous.
Vantage Data Centers is planning to build an $8-billion data center campus on 1,900 acres in Port Washington, WI, north of Milwaukee, according to a post at www.dailyreporter.com. The project is expected to begin construction later this year and be completed in 2029. Vantage plans to power 70% of the Wisconsin project with a mix of wind, solar and batteries, according to the post.
The Kansas City area has seen plenty of action in the data center market in 2025, including the $100-billion Project Kestral we profiled in EM's previous issue. Plans for another mega-campus ware announced in recent weeks — a $12-billion data center project by Red Wolf DCD Properties LLC near the Kansas City area's NASCAR track.
On the manufacturing front, ABB said it was investing $110 million more in the United States this year to expand R&D and manufacturing for products to be installed in data centers and the power grid.
According to the ABB press release, the investment will create 200 new jobs and support expected future growth in key industries, including data centers and the power grid. One of the ABB projects is a new production line in Senatobia, MS, for the company’s new Emax 3 circuit breakers, an advanced technology used to protect critical infrastructure, such as data centers.
“This $110-million investment in the US is part of our long-term strategy to support future growth in our biggest global market,” said Morten Wierod, ABB’s CEO, in the press release. “Demand is being driven by key trends, from the surging power needs of AI in data centers, to grid modernization and customers improving energy efficiency and uptime to reduce their costs.”
