Electrical People Moves - Summit, Soraa, Leviton, MaxLite, Warshauer and more

July 26, 2013
Stringer named VP of North American sales for solid-state lighting manufacturer Soraa; new director of talent management at Summit Electric; new faces in technical sales at Fulham and Leviton, and more...

Summit Electric Supply (Albuquerque, N.M.): The company has hired Brian Terrell as its director of talent management. He was recently COO for Burger Söhne AG in Burg, Switzerland, where he directed the premium cigar maker’s operations in Spain, Italy, France, Asia and the U.S. Previously, he led the strategic direction of Compañia Canariense de Tabacos SAU in Madrid, Spain, a Burger Söhne partner, as the company’s CEO. He was also sales director for Kraft Foods International in Caracas, Venezuela, and led analysis and execution of sales and marketing plans.

Soraa (Fremont, Calif.): George Stringer is now senior V.P. of North America sales and Nick Farraway has joined Soraa as senior V.P. of international sales. Both will report to Tom Caulfield, president and COO of Soraa.

Stringer comes to Soraa following 16 years with Acuity Brands Lighting in a variety of senior level sales and sales management roles. His last role at Acuity was as V.P. and general manager for corporate accounts, renovation and government.

Farraway has more than 30 years of global industry experience, including senior executive roles at Sylvania, Thorn and Zumtobel Lighting. He has worked through all channels from international project specification to general wholesale distribution and retail and led the successful bid teams on several prominent international projects, including London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and Wembley International Football Stadium.

Fulham Co. (Hawthorne, Calif.): Brad Ray has joined the company as a lighting controls field service technician and Bryan Nunn has been hired as a lighting controls test engineer. Ray comes to Fulham with more than 10 years of experience in both the lighting and construction industries. He is a controllable lighting systems expert with specialties in product testing and software implementation. Nunn will primarily work on both product development and networking development under Brian Soderholm, V.P. of control systems and induction systems. His background is in engineering, IT and property management.

Leviton Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Melville, N.Y.): Patrick Donnelly has been hired as a technical sales specialist. In his new role, Donnelly will be responsible for executing and expanding Leviton’s factory trainings offering — previously only held in New Orleans — to customers in other regions across the country. Prior to joining Leviton, Donnelly worked as a senior account manager at AVAD llc, playing a significant role in business development. He has also held sales and training positions with Russound FMP, Titus Management Group and ON-Q.

Maxlite (West Caldwell, N.J.): This manufacturer of LEDs and other lighting equipment has expanded its engineering department by setting up a team in its West Caldwell, N.J., headquarters and appointing key engineering personnel. MaxLite’s new engineering team in New Jersey will work with an existing engineering team in its Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., location.

Based at MaxLite’s West Coast offices, James Steedly, MaxLite’s director of product R&D and engineering, will oversee the California and New Jersey engineering operations. The New Jersey team includes three engineers: Robert Davis, Estrella Kim and Aymen Chami. Davis, product engineering team manager, has over 22 years of lighting and engineering experience. He supervises engineering and product development in New Jersey and reports to Steedly. Davis was most recently a senior design engineer for Acuity Brands Lighting. Kim, who previously worked with Osram Sylvania, brings her seven years’ experience in electrical engineering to MaxLite. She is responsible for developing LED drivers and lamps. Chami, who began as an engineering intern for MaxLite, was recently promoted to design engineer in charge of modifying electrical prototypes and assemblies of the firm’s new lighting fixtures. In addition, he is collaborating with electrical engineers to troubleshoot indoor and outdoor LED product issues and performing internal testing.

Warshauer Electric Supply  (Tinton Falls, N.J.): Lucy Harris, commercial lighting sales specialist, has completed the National Association of Independent Lighting Distributors (NAILD) Lighting Specialist II (LS-2) Certification. While NAILD’s LS-1 Certification Program focuses on the technological aspects of the lighting industry (using online modules with workbook activities and exercises), the LS-2 stresses applied lighting in the marketplace. It highlights a hands-on experience and emphasizes the transition from the role as product provider to solution provider. Harris is the first Warshauer employee to hold a certification for both the LS-1 and LS-2.

Sabtech (Yorba Linda, Calif.): This manufacturer of data communications equipment for military and government agencies recently promoted Michael Carter to CEO from his previous post as president.
