October EPI Stays Flat with 0.2% Growth

Nov. 16, 2012
Electrical Marketing’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) remained largely unchanged over the past month

Electrical Marketing’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) remained largely unchanged over the past month with power cable being the only product category showing a change (+1%) over September. It’s up 2.1% YTY, while, oddly enough, it seems to have decoupled from building wire, which is down 8% YTY but up 0.3% MTM. The overall EPI stands at 142.7.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; Global Insight
