Hoping to capitalize on what it sees as a strong commercial market, Cooper Crouse-Hinds has launched an initiative to increase its sales and marketing efforts for the commercial side of the business.

“We think there’s an outstanding growth opportunity within the commercial marketplace and we feel that we’re underpenetrated. This will give us a chance to increase our share position within that market,” said Pat Davin, vice president of sales and marketing for Crouse-Hinds Electrical Products, Syracuse, N.Y.

Cooper Crouse-Hind’s commercial business will continue to operate as Crouse-Hinds Commercial Products. The commercial business includes the acquisition of Myers Hub, Thepitt and Midwest Products. Of these acquisitions, only Crouse-Hinds continues to use the Myers name.

“We’re putting more focus on that commercial slice of the business by appointing a leadership position responsible for driving that growth and product offering, and then supporting it with resources, people and inventory,” said Davin.

Cooper Crouse-Hinds wants to get all key pieces of the new initiative in place by June 1. A major element of this effort was the hiring of Tom McCarron to head Crouse-Hinds Commercial Products. McCarron was most recently a Cooper regional vice president for the North Atlantic. Before that, he worked for Cooper Crouse-Hinds as vice president of strategic accounts. Cooper Crouse-Hinds has also hired two new regional managers: Paul Collins for the Eastern region and Travis Laib for the Central region. Cooper Crouse-Hinds is still looking for regional managers for its Gulf Coast and Western regions.

Cooper Crouse-Hinds is looking to hire 10 additional people to support its sales and marketing functions for the commercial business. Davin said a number of the resources planned are intended to help support Crouse-Hinds Commercial Products’ agent network and distribution base to improve customer service levels and speed the product to market.

Davin said the company will be beefing up its inventory in Roanoke, Va., and local agents’ inventory where required.
