Consolidated Electrical Distributors Inc., one of the nation’s biggest electrical distributors, has acquired Cain Electrical Supply Corp. in a move that expands its presence in western Texas and New Mexico.

Consolidated Electrical Distributors Inc., one of the nation’s biggest electrical distributors, has acquired Cain Electrical Supply Corp. in a move that expands its presence in western Texas and New Mexico.

Cain Electrical Supply, with nine locations, has 75 employees and annual sales of $34 million in 2004, according to Electrical Wholesaling (EW) magazine’s Top 200 listing.

Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED), Westlake Village, Calif., is ranked the nation’s fourth largest electrical distributor, according to EW. CED has approximately 5,000 employees and more than 500 locations.

The business will continue to operate under the Cain name. Cain will become part of CED’s West Central region. Jack Grove is the regional vice president for that region.

Tom Ross, Cain’s president, said several leading electrical supply distributors had approached him over the years to buy the business, but he selected CED because its business philosophy seemed compatible. “CED’s commitment to quality people and customer service is unequaled, and I am confident that with CED, Cain will continue the level of performance that we have demonstrated ever since the first Cain store was opened in Big Spring, Texas.”

Joyce Blassingame, who has been with Cain for 23 years and was most recently vice president, is newly appointed division manager of the Cain Electric division. She said she is pleased that Cain was part of the CED organization. “I cannot imagine a better partner for our customers and employees. I have been pleased with the quality of the CED personnel whom I have worked with as a part of the transition and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Cain has locations in Texas in Big Spring, Odessa, Midland, Brownwood, Lubbock, San Angelo, Synder and Stephenville. The company also has a location in Hobbs, N.M.

Before the acquisition, CED had 12 locations in Texas and a division office in San Antonio, according to CED’s Web site. Although some overlap exists between CED’s branches in Texas and Cain’s branches, all of the Cain branches will remain open, said Blassingame.
