EPI Gains Almost a Point in March

April 19, 2019
Prices saw some large gains in product categories that typically don’t show much monthly change.

Electrical Marketing’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) saw some large gains in categories that typically don’t show much monthly change.   Hand & Power Tools were up +5% in March and Pole Line Hardware was up +2.1%. Other product categories showing gains of more than 1% were Conduit Fittings (+6.4%); Nonmetallic Conduit (+4.9%); Panelboards & Switches (+1%); Switchgear (+1.9%); and Air Conditioners (+2.8%).

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
