EPI Creeps Up +0.1% in April, Up +2.4% YOY

May 25, 2018
A few large increases in lighting products were definitely notable

At +0.1%, the total increase for Electrical Marketing’s April Electrical Price Index was nothing to write home about. But the +2.4% year-over-year (YOY) increase and a few large increases in lighting products were definitely notable. Residential Lighting, a category that doesn’t usually see much movement, was up +2.7% for the month and +3.1% for the year. The Lamps category was up +1.4%, and increased  +2.7% YOY.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
