GE heads into offshore wind, acquires ScanWind

GE announced it's expanding its involvement in the offshore wind power generation market. The company completed the acquisition of a Norway-based developer of drive-train and turbine technologies for the offshore wind market. ScanWind, based in Trondheim, has turbine technology intended to eliminate gearboxes to improve maintenance and reliability.
