The Weidmüller Group, Detmold, Germany, has acquired W Interconnections Inc. from Rockwell Automation. The business manufactures active and passive interface modules for industrial automation and control applications including printed circuit board terminals, terminations, enclosures, and related accessories. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price or contractual details.

The deal, effective Oct. 1, adds to Weidmüller’s growth platform in the North American markets, where it has established offices in Richmond, VA; Toronto, ON; and Puebla, Mexico. The company is an international player in industrial connectivity and automation.

In its release announcing the deal, Weidmüller said the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region is one of the most important markets for industry automation. “With this acquisition, Weidmüller strengthens its global presence and customer proximity as an international market leader in industrial connectivity and automation. The acquisition supports Weidmüller’s growth strategy in industrial connectivity, communication and digitalization and reflects the long-term commitment of Weidmüller to the NAFTA market.”

Weidmüller will continue to operate the business from the current sites in Richmond, Toronto and Puebla. Weidmüller also said it “thanks Rockwell Automation for the successful relationship over the last fourteen years and is looking forward to continue a strong partnership.”
