Power/mation acquires Electrical Mechanical Drives

July 14, 2017
Similar to Power/mation, EMD has made shifts from initially being a rep firm for motor products to ultimately being an AHTD (Association for High Technology Distribution) distributor of motion control products.

Midwest high-tech automation specialist Power/mation, based in St. Paul, MN, expanded its drives offerings with the purchase announced last week of Electrical Mechanical Drives (EMD), Grafton, WI.

In a Power/mation release, Gary Laev, owner of EMD, and Tim York, president of Power/mation said the companies are a good fit. Similar to Power/mation, EMD has made shifts from initially being a rep firm for motor products to ultimately being an AHTD (Association for High Technology Distribution) distributor of motion control products. “We believe that EMD’s core competencies in motion control and mechanical applications along with Power/mation’s strong solution and product support, will offer customers access to an expanded product and service offering,” they said.

Power/mation operates from five locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, plus sales offices in Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas. It specializes in robotics, sensors, servo motion control, AC/DC drives, networking, industrial vision, connectivity, enclosure modification, safety, kits and a wide variety of customized technical solutions.
