Ohio Industrial Market Distributors Join Forces: CBT Buys FDL Automation & Supply

April 8, 2016
CBT Co. (formerly Cincinnati Belting & Transmission) announced that it has acquired FDL Automation & Supply Co., a locally owned electrical distributor based in Sidney, Ohio.

CBT Co. (formerly Cincinnati Belting & Transmission) announced that it has acquired FDL Automation & Supply Co., a locally owned electrical distributor based in Sidney, Ohio. FDL provides electrical products and solutions to the contractor, original equipment manufacturer, and industrial MRO markets.

This acquisition will expand CBT’s Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley distributor territory to include all of the counties surrounding Sidney, Ohio, including Shelby, Clark, Auglaize, Logan, Champaign and Hardin. CBT and FDL have a similar offering in automation and electrical supplies, and CBT will add power transmission, belting and pneumatic products and services to the Sidney location with the acquisition.

“FDL has an excellent business and reputation in the market, and has a number of customers and suppliers that are also customers and suppliers of CBT. This is a great opportunity to do more together than either of us could accomplish individually,” said Jim Stahl, CBT president and owner. “We will maintain the Sidney facility and leverage our combined personnel, products and services to provide an even better value proposition to our combined customer base.”

The Sidney location began operating as CBT on April 1. The FDL team there will join CBT’s 176 employees. “We are a locally owned and operated company, and we are excited to continue to expand our footprint and service our existing and new customers in the Sidney market,” Stahl said.

CBT, ranked #81 on the Electrical Wholesaling Top 200 list, supplies automation, electrical, mechanical power transmission, pneumatic and belting products for the industrial markets in the greater Cincinnati, Dayton and Sidney, Ohio, markets. The company also operates a facility in Springboro, Ohio, and plans to relocate its Cincinnati location to a new, 95,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in Columbia Township this summer.
