Mayer Electric Supply Co. Inc., Birmingham, Ala., will acquire the wholesale-distribution operations of Higgins Electric Inc., Dothan, Ala.
The service, construction, air compressor and motor shop departments of Higgins are not part of the sale, and Higgins will continue these operations.
Higgins operates in southern Alabama, northern Florida and western Georgia. The company was started in 1930 as an electric motor sales and motor repair business. In 1988, the company was purchased by new owners who added both inventory and salespeople to support their expansion into the wholesale-distributor business. A year later, Higgins added service and construction capabilities, primarily serving industrial customers.
Mayer Electric is No. 15 on Electrical Wholesaling magazine’s Top 200 listing of distributors. In the last few months, Mayer Electric Supply acquired Jones & Lee Supply, Knoxville, Tenn., and Biloxi Electric Supply, Birmingham, Ala.
