Graybar opens new Bismarck branch, unites Akron and Canton
Graybar Electric Co., St. Louis, opened a new branch in Bismarck, N.D., on Dec. 1 to serve western North Dakota. The new facility has 17,000 square feet and a staff of seven employees. Leading the Graybar Bismarck team are branch manager Ivar Berge, a 29-year Graybar veteran, and branch supervisor Chris Allrich, a 13-year Graybar employee.
Graybar also announced it will open a new facility in North Canton, Ohio, on Dec. 13, to serve customers throughout the Akron-Canton region. The 37,800-square-foot facility will have a crew of 26 employees led by branch manager Jim Lostoski, a 21-year Graybar veteran.
Munro Distributing opens sales office to target Boston market
An article in Massachusetts' The Enterprise said Munro Distributing Co., Fall River, Mass., reopened its sales office in Brockton, Mass., earlier this month so it can better serve the Boston market. While Munro has had a warehouse and distribution center in Brockton, the article said the company had closed its Brockton sales office a few years ago. Munro is ranked #103 on EW's Top 200 listing with $70 million in 2009 sales.
USA Wire & Cable supplies five million feet of PV wire for Ontario
The solar division of USA Wire & Cable, Austin, Texas, reported a record-breaking quarter led by four large utility scale projects in Canada that required more than 5 million feet of PV wire. The cable was used for module hook-ups and home run cables; additional cables ranging in size from 2AWG to 750MCM were utilized on the AC side of the project including aluminum cable, ground wire and fiber-optic cables.
Warshauer Electric Supply wins accreditation for solar training
Warshauer Tech, the educational arm of Warshauer Electric Supply, Tinton Falls, N.J., was recently recognized as an accredited Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ) Continuing Education Provider by IREC (Interstate Renewal Energy Council) for its “Solar Certification Program - Introduction to Photovoltaic Systems.
Cooper buys manufacturer of televisions for hazardous locations
Cooper Industries plc (CBE), Dublin, Ireland, signed a deal to buy Norway's Hernis Scan Systems AS, which makes closed-circuit television systems for use in harsh and hazardous conditions. Hernis specializes in explosion-proof television systems used in on-shore and offshore oil and gas production and for marine and petrochemical markets.
Belden expands in industrial networking with GarrettCom purchase
Belden Inc. (BDC), St, Louis, plans to expand its business far past its roots in electronic wire and cable with its purchase of GarrettCom, Fremont, Calif., a provider of advanced industrial networking products and smart-grid solutions. The acquisition adds industrial grade switches, routers, converters, serial communications, and security software to Belden's basket of products. GarrettCom sells its products into power utilities, surveillance and security, transportation, specialty industrial automation, telecommunications, and similar demanding harsh-environment verticals.
