Sonepar Canada Buys MGM in Ontario

Sonepar Canada announced an agreement to acquire MGM Electric Limited, a full line electrical distributor in Thunder Bay and North Western Ontario. Under the agreement, MGM Electric will join Sonepar Canada’s family of companies. The acquisition was completed April.

MGM Electric has been in business for over 25 years, becoming a leading full line electrical supply and lighting wholesaler in Thunder Bay and northwestern Ontario with 33 people in two locations serving electrical contractors and the mining, forestry and pulp & paper industries.

“MGM Electric is a great addition to our northern Ontario footprint outlining many synergies with our current businesses,” said Francois Anquetil, president and managing director of Sonepar Canada, in a release.

MGM Electric joins Sonepar Canada’s Ontario division, consisting of Dixon, Gescan, Osso, Sesco and Texcan, as well as safety, janitorial and MRO distributor CenturyVallen. MGM’s executive management team will remain with Tere McDonald as president, Doug Chadwick as V.P. of sales and Ed Fukushima will become an external consultant providing continued leadership to the business.

Sonepar Canada has been serving residential, commercial, industrial and specialty business customers since 1984, with now more than 1,800 employees in over 100 branches.

Worldwide, Sonepar is active in 36 countries or more, with 36,000 people working in more than 2,200 locations.
